The Project
HDWD is based on the Healthy People 2010 initiative, a national 10-year plan to help federal, state, local, private, and community health promotion and wellness activities to improve the health of all Americans. People with disabilities are included throughout the Healthy People plan. In addition, there are an additional 13 objectives within Chapter 6 of the plan that apply specifically to people with disabilities.
Delaware is one of 16 States that are funded by CDC to focus specifically on disabilities.
HDWD is a collaboration project between the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services (DDDS) of the Delaware Health and Social Services (DHSS), the Center for Disabilities Studies (CDS) at the University of Delaware, and the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research (CADSR), also at the University of Delaware.
